Self-destructively, I finished the second of Carol Berg’s Rai-kirah books and am working on the third. This is the basic plot progression of the series. I’m spoiling everything right here! Click on the cut only if you wish to bask in the brilliance of the best plot arc ever!
(The most recent Penny Arcade may be relevant to this post’s interests.)
Book 1 – Seyonne is enslaved by the barbarous Derzhi (prophesied to bring about the end of the world), but discovers that the true threat is the Rai-kirah demons, so Seyonne redeems the crown prince of the Derzhi and they join forces.
Book 2 – Seyonne is taken prisoner by the Rai-kirah demons (prophesied to bring about the end of the world), but he discovers that the true threat is the Nameless Dark God, so Seyonne redeems the Rai’kirah and they join forces.
Book 3 – The Nameless Dark God (prophesied to bring about the end of the world) isn’t the true threat, and Seyonne is giving serious consideration to redeeming him. I have not gotten to the actual true threat, but signs point to the Extra-Dark God-King of Rock. I never trusted that guy.
Books 4, 5, and 6 (forthcoming) – Seyonne redeems the Extra-Dark God-King of Rock, the Doomlocks of Iceshadowpants, and StrongBad. They join forces and form a band the likes of which has never been seen, and they call themselves Tenacious D.
(Blizzard has contacted Carol Berg about optioning the Doomlocks of Iceshadowpants for use in a future World of Warcraft expansion. I hear they’re going to have shadow sword ghosts, too. I guess the swords are dead?)
